From the vantage point of 10.2% unemployment, it may be hard to fathom how anything could impact jobs the way a recession can. Still, there’s something just as inevitable as the ups and downs of the economy – and that’s technology’s forward march.
A piece by Brian Wesbury in the current edition of Forbes magazine underscores the disruptive force technology has on employment. It can build up…and it can tear down. There are winners and losers.
This is nothing new. It’s been going on since the industrial revolution, though the pace of change has accelerated dramatically.
Companies learn how to adapt or risk the consequences. The same is true for employees. Technology forces some jobs to be eliminated – while new ones are created.
Just another reminder how important it is to keep abreast of trends. It’s up to you to keep yourself “up to date.” Know what’s coming, and how you’ll need to adjust to ensure you’re as marketable as possible.
Change is a constant you can count on. Don’t let yourself become a casualty.
