The Labor Department reported in September that it now takes unemployed workers an average of 27.2 weeks to find work.
That’s roughly 8 weeks longer than it took in September of last year - and it’s safe to assume that number will continue to rise.
So…if you’ve been out of work for a while and are getting a little frustrated with the pace of your search, understand that you aren’t some sort of anomaly. Slow going is the new normal.
That said, you can do a lot to expedite the process.
How exactly do you spend your time searching? What tactics do you employ?
If your idea of a constructive job search is hanging around online looking at postings for an hour or two a day – prepare to dig in for the long haul. You’re not going to get very far very quickly.
You can choose the easy search, or the strategy that’s going to generate results. It’s up to you.
