If you’re facing some sort of company reorganization, job security is your responsibility. Don’t expect anyone to take care of you but you.
If you want to retain your job then you need to be proactive. You'll find it’s possible not only to survive…but to thrive.
It’s not uncommon during any sort of major company restructuring for new roles to lack clear definition, at least during the early phases. You may not receive specific marching orders.
Make it your responsibility to understand what’s needed and how you can be a part of it. Don’t wait for someone to tap you on the shoulder with clear instructions.
Communicate with your boss. Especially if you’re reporting to someone new, take it upon yourself to establish a line of communication. Find out what that person requires; from that you can start to put some structure to your job and establish a timetable for deliverables.
If you’re feeling like you’re in the dark about your new responsibilities – do something about it. Don’t hunker down, wait, and hope things will work out.
You can count on the fact that things will sort themselves out eventually, one way or another. The problem with the passive approach? You may not like the outcome.
Make sure people know what you’re capable of contributing – and jump in.
You must create value before you can expect reciprocity.
